I am a resident counselor at one of the top pre-college enrichment summer programs in the world and I'm calling Los Angeles, California, my home for the next six weeks.

I feel like I haven’t done much in the past couple of days, but I am constantly exhausted. Maybe it’s because all of the three week students have finally arrived! Unfortunately, we’ve already had some trouble. The kids are rowdier, we’ve had to keep closer eyes on them, and we have two students (to my knowledge) being sent home tomorrow. One of them is going home because his parents are pulling him from the program from continuous misbehavior. The other is an Italian boy who has been here for two days and was caught with a GIGANTIC bag of cigarettes he bought from the duty free store at the airport and pot paraphernalia. He was so disrespectful to the entire administration, his parents have now wasted thousands of dollars for him to be here, and he’s going home on the third day. It makes me wonder if I would have been so disrespectful when I was 15. And it also makes me never want to deal with raising teenagers.
On a bright note, I get to take some kids to the Griffith Observatory tomorrow. Should be a great opportunity to take some photos of the beautiful skyline!
